Giving Thanks

There are not many things in the world that do not have some value.  Mosquitos, flat beer, pineapple on pizza.  Not many others. What always has value are the people in our lives.  Like many mornings, I woke up thinking/dreaming about people that have passed in my life.  This morning, it was about sledding down the hill at home with my brother and sister when we were kids, very young. It is one of those memories that has stayed with me.  I can feel how cold and wet my feet were, even though Mama had put all of our feet in bread bags before putting our boots on.  I can see the sun sparkling off the snow.  I can hear the crunch under our feet as we drag the red saucer back up the hill. We were freezing and soaking and having a ball.  Maybe that is such a strong memory, that I come back to often, because we were happy together.  In short, we loved each other, though I would have punched you for suggesting it, that wasn't cool. On any other day, you would have generally found L

It ain't right

No one is surprised that I have significant opinions on almost every topic.  This is one I will never be able to understand, because it is not my experience, but I have a deeply held and emotional opinion about it. Approximately 20 "faith" leaders stood on a stage in Birmingham Alabama yesterday and demeaned, minimized and questioned the accounts of nine women, that do not know one another, have corroborating evidence for each of their accounts, that have been sourced and investigated and proven to corroborate, that said a Senate candidate abused them.  All were young.  Most teenage girls in high school, one as young as 14. People of faith, bastions of what should be a doctrine of love, acceptance, healing and community, stood up and defended and championed a man that has multiples of women, with tremendous similarity and corroborating evidence, claiming assault and abuse.  If there was ever a display of what is sick and decrepit about the "church", it was yeste

Here We Are

At it's heart, this post is about politics I suppose.  But, not in terms of policies or taxes or positions.  This is about right and wrong. I don't know how to put this, except, it is wrong to vote for someone because of the party they belong to, regardless.  Case in point, Roy Moore in Alabama.  This guy has been stripped of his seat on the Alabama Supreme Court, twice, for disregarding federal court orders.  Yes, I can count on no fingers the number of other elected judges I have seen removed from the bench outside of elections.  This cat has had it happen twice. Were this person a Democrat, I imagine 99% of the population of Alabama would use more colorful language to describe such a scofflaw.  Regardless of party or ideology, someone that does not accept the rule of law is probably a poor choice to put into positions of greater influence. Add to that, he believes that homosexuality is a crime that should be punished.  He believes that Muslims should not be allowed to
